Guide to the USCC
The best of the best in the coffee world are about to descend on Atlanta. The reason? The United States Coffee Championship, of course.
The USCC is a huge event that encompasses the United States Barista Competition, Brewers Cup, Roasters Championship and Tasters Championship. This is where the crème de la crème (pun intended) of the coffee industry come to show they are the best in the country.
And this year, the event is right here in Atlanta!
What Are the Details?
The USCC events will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center, located at 285 Andrew Young International Boulevard NW. The competitions will be held April 14-17, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.
Tickets for the event are $15 and get you in for the day. You can watch competitors in every sector of competition and sample coffee from the BGA Cafe’ (many roasters and shops take their turn serving you!).
You can park in any lot around the GWCC or Uber or take MARTA.
How Can I Watch?
If you are unable to attend the event and want to still watch, Rock on! You can watch using this link anytime during the event. Chattahoochee will be live streaming a lot of the event in the shop too.
if you're into the "second-screen" experience, and want to see commentary while you watch, follow @SprudgeLive. These guys will give you all the updates you need, with some awesome one-liners.
Anything Else I Can Attend?
The competitions are the cornerstone of the USCC, however, with them comes some awesome events. Last week we discussed the U.S. AeroPress Championships that will take place at Chattahoochee Westside. This is something you won't want to miss, so get your tickets NOW.
The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Expo will be held at the GWCC at the same time as the competitions. If you are a huge fan of coffee, check it out. It will feature lectures, tastings and representation from EVERY company in the coffee industry.
What’s So Great About Atlanta?
If you are one of the coffee people coming to Atlanta for the competition, welcome. We hope you love our Southern Hospitality, as well as our city.
Here are a couple of my favorite places around town, if you are looking for something NOT coffee related to do.
Chattahoochee Westside: I know this is coffee related, but c'mon, I gotta represent my shop.
Grindhouse Killer Burgers -- It's all in the name. If you want to chow down, come here.
Fat Matt's Rib Shack -- For if you're hankerin' for a rack of ribs.
JCT Kitchen -- Y'all traveled all this way, might as well have some fried chicken and collards.
Ponce City Market -- Shopping, eating and drinking, something you should really check out.
Buford Highway -- This is a road, not a specific place, but you can DO NO WRONG on BuHi.
As always, let me know if you have any questions about the USCC. And wish me luck!
