The Odd Couple: New and Unusual Ways to Enjoy Coffee

When most people think of coffee they think of a hot cup in the morning or a nice cozy latte. And while these are definitely popular, and delicious, ways to enjoy coffee -- don’t be afraid to step out of the box.

There are many unconventional ways to enjoy the flavors and benefits of this miracle liquid. Let’s discuss some of my experiences with coffee outside the cafe.

Cold Brew and Beer - Yes, I know it sounds odd, but trust me. In order to enjoy this treat, I often use Slingshot concentrate -- sold in Whole Foods or Chattahoochee. Take 1-2 ounces of cold brew concentrate and add it to an IPA. I know IPAs don’t seem like the beer to use, but the bitterness in the hops and coffee work really well together. One of my go-to’s for this combo is Monday Night Slap Fight. It smells like coffee and tastes like a great IPA.

Cold Brew and Tonic - This is another great use of Slingshot Concentrate and is a good non-alcoholic alternative. Take a cup of ice and fill it up with tonic, I really like Fever Tree, and then float 1-2 ounces of Slingshot concentrate on top. This makes a great carbonated coffee drink! You can even garnish with some fruit if you like.

Cold Brew and Chocolate Milk - Continuing my obsession with cold brew. This is a no brainer. If you want to make your own Iced Mocha then this is the way to go. Play around with ratios till you find what you like I recommend equal parts Slingshot Ready to Drink and Promised Land Chocolate Milk. Guys, this is life changing.

Dry Rub for Steak - I love steak, frankly I love pretty much any form of beef, but steak holds a special place in my heart. While I believe a steak needs nothing more than salt and maybe a little pepper, this dry rub is a great way to take your steak game to the next level. It adds a great crunch during searing and the chili lends a nice spice to the dish.

Coffee-Braised Lamb - Okay so truth be told I pretty much love all forms of meat. And this lamb dish uses actual brewed coffee and it is so flippin’ good. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself.

Coffee Scrub - So this isn’t even edible, but smells amazing and brings my love of coffee to the bathroom. It also feels great on your skin and is super easy to make. An added bonus is this would make a great gift.

Want to try one of these recipes or have one of your own? Come and tell me! Coffee is one of my favorite things and I love experimenting with it in places other than the coffee bar!
